Hill Top Cottage: The Local Area

Grassington is set in the heart of Wharfedale in The Yorkshire Dales National Park, home of the recent All Creatures Great and Small.

Dales scenery is diverse, from windswept rugged fells across limestone hills to green river valleys with thriving market towns, delightful villages and tiny farming hamlets. It is a haven for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts with The Dales Way passing Hill Top Cottage and many other walks from the door leading into the beautiful rolling countryside. The Pennine Way and The Coast to Coast walks are close by. Walking possiblities range from The Three Peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen Y Ghent to gentle riverside strolls, often to welcoming pubs!

The market town of Skipton with its Medieval Castle, canal walks and large supermarkets and shops is within driving distance. Amongst many pretty villages nearby Bolton Abbey offers riverside walks and picnic areas. The historic city of York is an hour away by car, and Brönte enthusiasts will enjoy visiting The Parsonage at Haworth, possibly on The Worth Valley scenic railway. The beautiful town of Harrogate is about 45 minutes by car.  Why not visit the famous Betty's Tea Room for afternoon tea.

There is also a Tourist Information Centre. Grassington has a frequent local bus service, both up The Dale and beyond and down to Skipton, which has a rail link to Leeds, Bradford and London.

There's always something to do in Grassington.

There are monthly real food markets in the square. In September, Grassington goes back in time for its popular 1940's weekend. In the first two weekends of December, Grassington's Christmas Market offers festive cheer, market stalls and entertainment. There's also events at the Octagon Centre and Town Hall throughout the year.

Grassington is surrounded by many miles of paths and trails which criss-cross the area. This combined with the beautiful scenery makes for an ideal location for both relaxing and more challenging walks.

Grassington has a variety of high quality shops, tearooms, restaurants and pubs, as have many villages in the surrounding area. The opportunities for dining out are endless! Additionally Grassington offers a small recently refurbished supermarket, Newsagents, Post Office, Hairdressers, Pharmacy, Bakers and Delicatessan within a short stroll of Hill Top Cottage. The butchers is located at the Spar Petrol Station in Threshfield (about a 5 minute drive away).
